A Hot Springs man was arrested early Monday after allegedly attacking his live-in girlfriend the night before.

Gambino Carmona Lopez, 27, of 385 Valley Acres Road, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 1:30 a.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Lopez was being held on zero bond and was set to appear Monday afternoon in Garland County District Court. A hold has also been placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to the affidavit, shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Garland County sheriff's Deputy John Crow was dispatched to a disturbance at the Valley Acres residence and upon arrival spoke to a woman, 21, who stated her boyfriend, identified as Lopez, had struck her repeatedly on her right leg with a speaker cord.

Crow noted the woman had a large red mark on her right thigh and she was complaining of being in pain. She said several days earlier Lopez had choked her and put a kitchen knife to her throat during an argument.

She said Lopez had left the residence on foot prior to Crow's arrival. Crow left the scene, but was called back shortly after 1 a.m. because Lopez had reportedly returned to the residence. He spoke to the woman again who said Lopez and she had argued in the front yard, but then he fled again when she told him deputies were coming.

Crow searched under the house and found Lopez hiding under a crawl space in the corner and took him into custody.
