Jessieville teams sweep Gurdon

GURDON -- Jessieville had four players score in double figures to snap a three-game losing streak with a 62-48 win over Gurdon Tuesday night.

Alex Burleson led the way with 19 points, while Braxton Shifflett and Dalton McClard finished with 12 and Tyler Holloway added 10.

"I will take four guys in double figures in the scoring column any night," Jessieville coach Jared White said. "They came out and played some junk defense on Alex and Braxton, and we were able to have some other guys step up and score the ball."

Trailing 15-13 after one quarter, the Lions erupted for 22 points in the second to take a 35-26 halftime lead. Gurdon rebounded with a 15-14 advantage in the third before Jessieville put the game away with a 13-point fourth quarter.

"We were fatigued and it showed, but we played through it and were able to get the win," said White.

Improving to 3-3 on the season, the Lions will travel to Fountain Lake for a rivalry game Tuesday night at Bass Gymnasium.

"We have to get back to work on the practice floor and get better at some things we know we are struggling with, but I'm proud of the way these kids bounced back," White said.

* Landen Daley led all scorers with 16 points as the junior Lions rolled to a 46-17 win over Gurdon. Jarrett Davis added 13 points and Charlie Davis finished with eight.

"I thought we moved the ball extremely well; this was a total team win from top to bottom," said White. "This group has a chance to be really good if they continue to learn to play together."
