A Scott man was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly attacking a Walmart manager and trying to steal her car in the store's parking lot.

Bryan Earl Taylor, 40, was taken into custody around 5 a.m. at the store, 4019 Central Ave., and charged with a felony count of robbery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of theft of property, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Taylor remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $6,000 bond and is set to appear Oct. 17 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, shortly before 5 a.m., Hot Springs police responded to a reported robbery at the store and upon arrival found Taylor being subdued at the scene by store employees.

The store's manager, 51, stated another employee had notified her that while he was on break in the parking lot he had seen a man, later identified as Taylor, checking door handles of vehicles in the lot.

The manager said she went out in the lot to make sure the doors to her own vehicle were locked when she was approached by Taylor. She asked him, "Can I help you?" and he allegedly said, "Yeah, I'm gonna take your f - - - - - - car!"

She said Taylor then tackled her to the ground and attempted to remove her key ring, which was attached to her belt loop. She said she called for help and her employee ran over, pulled Taylor off her and then held him there until police arrived.

The employee told police he saw Taylor attack the manager and attempt to steal her keys. A pair of work boots and a wallet allegedly found in Taylor's possession were determined to have been stolen from the store.

Davis

Nathan Darnell Davis, 38, who lists a Laredo Loop address, was taken into custody shortly before 2 p.m. and charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, punishable by up to six years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and second-degree criminal mischief.

Davis remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of bonds totaling $4,750 and was set to make an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in district court.

According to the affidavit, on July 16, shortly before 11:30 p.m., police Officer Joey Vanderburg made a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger for failing to use a turn signal, stopping the vehicle at Grand Avenue and Grove Street.

He made contact with the driver, 42, and front-seat passenger, identified as Davis, and noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He also saw what appeared to be marijuana in Davis' lap and on the door handle next to him.

As Officer Shane Lewis arrived to assist, Vanderburg asked the driver and Davis about the marijuana and the driver reportedly stated Davis "just got done rolling a blunt." At that point, Davis exited the vehicle and fled on foot with Lewis in pursuit.

As Lewis crossed over into a nearby yard chasing Davis, he stepped in a hole in the yard and fell down, tearing his pants and scratching his arm. He resumed the pursuit, but was unable to locate Davis.

In searching the vehicle, officers reportedly found a clear baggie containing .6 gram of what later tested positive for cocaine between the passenger seat and center console. The driver said he was unaware the cocaine was in his vehicle.

A warrant was later issued for Davis on the possession and fleeing charges.
