A local man and woman were arrested early Friday after a traffic stop allegedly uncovered narcotics and paraphernalia on their persons and in their vehicle.

Josh Paul David Walters, 38, who lists a Main Street address, and Lena Gail Davis, 38, who lists a Rushfork Road address, were taken into custody around 1:15 a.m. Friday and charged with two felony counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to six years in prison, and possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Walters and Davis both appeared via video in Garland County District Court Friday morning and each entered pleas of not guilty to the charges. Both remain in custody, with Walters held in lieu of a $15,000 bond and Davis in lieu of a $12,500 bond. A felony review hearing is scheduled for both on Nov. 20.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Justin Parker was patrolling the area of Airport and Marion Anderson roads when he saw a white Ford Contour westbound with a defective license plate light. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the Valero, 2070 Airport Road, and spoke with Bailey, who was driving the vehicle, and Walters, who was in the front passenger seat.

As Parker spoke with Bailey, he reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. He told Bailey and Walters to exit the vehicle and move to its rear.

Upon patting both of them down, Parker allegedly found a solid box-shaped object in the front left pocket of Walters' pants. The box slid down the front of his pants and hit the ground. The object was an metal container holding a small amount of marijuana residue.

Parker then searched the vehicle and found a glass pipe with meth residue inside, four small plastic bags of meth and a set of digital scales with meth residue on the plate.
