Storms knock out power to 2,400

Strong thunderstorms that moved through the area overnight caused around 2,400 outages, according to Entergy Arkansas Inc.

Around 1,500 of the utility's customers in Garland County remained without power Sunday morning. Entergy said it plans to have all customers in the area restored by 6 p.m.

Jim Garland, Entergy's regional customer service manager, said a line of strong thunderstorms and straight-line winds caused numerous power outages in Garland and Montgomery counties around 3 a.m.

The outages were scattered throughout the counties, with the largest numbers in the city of Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village, Garland said.

"At the peak, we had about 2,400 customers without electricity. We have crews working to assess the damages and restore power," he said in an email.

"We urge our customers to remain safe and stay away from downed power lines," he added.

"If you have an outage, or have downed power lines in your area, please call 1-800-9OUTAGE (800-968-8243)."
