Five apply for vacant FLSD board position

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Fountain Lake School District received five applications for a vacant seat on the school board after the former president resigned earlier this month.

The Fountain Lake School Board will hold a special meeting today at 5:30 p.m. in the board room of the administration building at 4207 Park Ave. Members of the board will interview the five candidates in open session with an executive session planned at the end of the meeting.

Greg Frank resigned from his seat on the board at the conclusion of the regular meeting on Sept. 14. He underwent open heart surgery in July shortly after filing for re-election.

Frank and Sheila Ford were unopposed on this month's ballot in the annual school election. Frank had served on the board since 2011 and was seeking a third term.

Board members in Fountain Lake serve in at-large seats for three-year terms. The board has 30 days from Frank's resignation to appoint a replacement to serve until the next election.

The applicants are Colin Cameron, change board chairman for Dassault Falcon Jet in Little Rock; Alex Dykes, a former Lake Hamilton teacher and now financial director for the Arkansas Future Farmers of America Association; Bryan Lambert, Hot Springs Village agent for Advantage Title & Escrow; Daniel LaMontagne, senior director of land asset management for Weyerhaeuser; and Lloyd Little, a retiree with 35 years of experience in education, including 25 years as a superintendent.

Lambert previously applied for an opening on the board when Bob McCleskey resigned from his seat in 2016 with four years remaining in his term. Board members interviewed Lambert and Dana Greeson, who was appointed to the seat and ran unopposed in the 2016 election. Bo Robertson, director of the Garland County Department of Emergency Management, was also unopposed for an at-large seat in 2016.

The annual school election in September will be discontinued after 2017. State law recently amended policy to give schools the option to align their school board races with the primaries in the spring or the general election in November.
