A case of 'millage envy'

Dear editor:

The Lakeside School District is proposing a significant millage increase on the ballot for the primary election this spring. Early voting begins May 7 with primary election day May 22. The reasoning behind this 11 percent increase is sadly lacking. The sudden appearance of this with almost no advance notice is unacceptable to me.

The school district may need more income, but before I vote for such a request, I want more time to understand the facts justifying the need. This seems to me to be a case of "millage envy" since both Lake Hamilton and Hot Springs school districts have stuck their homeowners with a property tax increase in recent years.

I also do not approve of the sneaky way this has been presented with minimal warning and zero supporting data. So, until I see more solid reasons, I say vote no on this request in primary this May.
