90th Assembly held by Daughters of American Colonists

At its 90th State Assembly held recently in Fayetteville, the Arkansas Society Daughters of the American Colonists elected new state officers for the term 2018-2020. Elected were Regent Tammy Sowers-White, Vice Regent Mary Miller, Chaplain Dorothy Wilks, Secretary Mary Ford, Treasurer Betty Harp, Registrar Ruth Ashcraft and Historian MarJo Dill. This is Sowers-White second term as state regent.

The assembly was attended by about 40 members from Stuttgart, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, Hot Springs Village, Little Rock, North Little Rock and Fayetteville. Guest of honor was Phyllis Best Jones, national president. Jones, a resident of Georgia, was presented with an Arkansas Travelers Certificate by outgoing State Regent Frankie Ochsner.

Individuals and the chapters were recognized for their 2017 achievements during 2017 and at the conclusion of the assembly, Ochsner was elected Honorary State Regent for Life for her exceptional leadership.

The Arkansas Society DAC was organized in 1921 and has three chapters. DAC members are descendants of a man or woman who rendered patriotic or civil service to the American Colonies prior to July 4, 1776. It is a lineage society with members working to preserve their heritage and record their history for future generations while serving communities through patriotic education, JROTC and ROTC programs, scholarships for American Indian students, marking historical sites, serving veterans and more.
