Villager awarded medal by USD 1812 state

Hot Springs Villager Jeanette Frahm was presented the Spirit of 1812 Medal at the United States Daughters of 1812 104th state council held recently in Hot Springs.

The Spirit of 1812 Medal is awarded to an individual or an organization with a distinguished record of study, promotion and dedication to the preservation of the history of people, places and events of the War of 1812. The candidate must have demonstrated a committed effort to preserve a certain aspect of the War of 1812 and the culture of the time period and it can be awarded to a member of USD 1812 if their efforts are above and beyond the normal member obligation and expectation. The purpose of this award is to recognize and thank those who are keeping the history of the War of 1812 alive. It is the highest award given by the National Society USD 1812.

Nominated by State Vice President Mary-Reid Warner and Honorary State President Sheila Beatty, her nomination letter stated: "Since 2012, she has compiled the yearbook, which includes all the chapters in the state. When Jeanette began serving as State Registrar from 2012 to 2016, there were two chapters with a total of 71 members. Thanks to her diligence, today we now have four chapters with a total of 138 members. She has not limited her genealogical talent to 1812, but has regularly assisted the General Society War of 1812 in organizing a chapter in Arkansas. Recently, she was awarded the SAR Daughters of Liberty Medal, which is the highest medal presented and must be approved by the state society. It is presented to a lady in appreciation for her unselfish devotion, tireless efforts and assistance to the SAR, and who has dedicated her time, energy, ability and/or finances to the organization in support and furtherance of the stated objectives of the National Society, SAR."
