U.S. Army Capt. Christopher V. Petrancosta, son of Vincent C. and Lee Ann Petrancosta, of Hot Springs, was promoted to major March 9 during a ceremony held at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Petrancosta will next be assigned to the Capitol as the Army liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives. He and his wife, Stacia, have been married for nine years and have two children, Tatum, 4, and Maryn, 17 months old.

He is currently assigned to the Joint Staff J.S./Transregional Threats Coordination Cell, serving as a politico-military planner for strategic plans and national strategy development to counter violent extremist organizations.

Petrancosta's first assignment was with 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as an airborne infantry rifle platoon leader, company executive officer and battalion logistics officer. During this time, he was deployed in support of Operation Unified Response in Haiti and Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

In 2013, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, where he was deployed twice in support of the Brigade's regional alignment. Once, he was deployed with a small team to Niger to assist in the training of Nigerian soldiers, and later he deployed to Djibouti as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In 2015, he was assigned to the Army's Human Resources Command, serving as an account manager for the Officer Readiness Division. During this assignment, he was selected as an Army JCS/CSD/ARSTAF intern.

Petrancosta holds a master's degree in policy management from Georgetown University (2017) and a bachelor's in science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in systems management engineering (2007). His awards include the Bronze Star Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and many others.

ā€¢ U.S. Air Force Airman Michael H. Jordan II, a 2016 graduate of Lakeside High School, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Those who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
