HSV Democrats to hear

from candidates

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Democratic Club of Hot Springs Village will meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Coronado Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane, Hot Springs Village. It will include speakers and bylaw revision approval.

Beginning at 3 p.m., there will be an informal gathering with refreshments and beverages. Several Democratic candidates will engage in discussions with members and guests.

Among the candidates attending and speaking are Hayden Shamel, a candidate for United States Congress for the Fourth District of Arkansas, and Rep. Clarke Tucker, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Second Congressional District.

Everyone interested is welcome.

Emblem Club holds taco

salad dinner fundraiser

Hot Springs Emblem Club 194 will host a Taco Salad Dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at the Elks Lodge, 132 Abbott Place. Funds raised will go to the Humane Society of Garland County.

Friends of GC Library

host annual book sale

The Friends of the Garland County Library will hold its annual book sale May 3-5 in the library's auditorium. The sale opens to a "members only presale" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 3. The general public is welcome from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 4-5.

Membership is a $5 donation which supports children, teen and adult programs throughout the year. Membership cards can be picked up at the library or through the Friends of the Library's link on the library's website at http://www.gclibrary.com.

There will be a $2 book bag sale all three days in the Book Sale room. Don't miss this sale of thousands of fiction, nonfiction, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games.

Melting Pot GS to meet

for webinar presentations

The Melting Pot Genealogical Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the MPGS Library, 649-B Ouachita Ave. There will not be a featured speaker, instead, there will be a webinar presentation providing tips on how to break through brick walls and how to research specific records rather than just globally search for people.

The Melting Pot is collecting annual dues of $25, which includes monthly newsletters and its annual publication, The Kettle. The library and meetings are open to the public. The library has more than 9,000 publications, CDs, microfilm and fiche and several public-use computers. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday; or by appointment, call 624-0229. The library staff is an all-volunteer group of people interested in preserving and making available the histories of families of Garland County and other areas.

Computer Club of HSV

offers two classes

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Computer Club of Hot Springs Village will offer two classes this week at Village Church of Christ on Balboa in the Village at from 1-4 p.m.

The Wednesday class is Protecting Your Computer Data, which becomes increasingly important as we increase the volume of information stored on our computers.

The Thursday class is System Imaging, which goes hand-in-hand with protecting one's data.
