Lake Hamilton teams take second, third in 6A-West meet

PEARCY -- Knowledge Hood and Edie Murray starred Friday as the Wolves placed second and the Lady Wolves placed third in the 6A-West conference track and field meet at Lake Hamilton Wolf Stadium.

Hood was fifth after the preliminaries for the 200-meter dash, but he won the final race of the event. He also took first place in the 400-meter dash and ran on Lake Hamilton's first-place 4x400-meter relay team with new Arkansas State signee Cody Weldon, Colby Swecker and Haze Farmer.

Murray won the girls' pole vault by almost two feet. She also gave her team second-place points in the 200-meter dash.

Lake Hamilton missed out on higher places in the standings by just 6.5 points combined.

The boys' team placed second with 161 points, only 3.5 points behind conference champion Texarkana at 164.5. Benton was third with 102 points.

The girls' team had 101 points for third place. Sheridan was the runner-up with 103 points, while Benton won the 6A-West title with 125 points.

Farmer also led a sweep of the top four places in the boys' pole vault, winning by almost three feet. He was followed in the event by teammates Michael Harris, Hunter Johnson and John Thomas Bardwell.

Weldon and Swecker also ran with Skylar Davis and Dylan Stephens to give the Wolves first-place points in the 4x800-meter relay. Swecker added a pair of runner-up finishes to Hood in the 400-meter dash and to Greenwood's Joseph Wittig in the 3200-meter run.

Ray Hamp led another Lake Hamilton sweep of top finishes, placing first in the boys' shot put. Teammate Cole Speer placed second.

The Lady Wolves almost swept the top spots in the girls' pole vault as well. Grace Cole placed second behind Murray. Mahayla Swayze finished in fourth place behind Mackenzie Moring, of Sheridan.

Arkansas Razorback signee Josie Carson did not run in her usual distance events. Benton's Gracie Hyde was able to sweep the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Hyde also ran on Benton's 4x800-meter relay team, which placed second.

Carson took first place in the girls' 400-meter dash and ran on Lake Hamilton's third-place team in the 4x400-meter relay. The relay team included Baylee Jenkins, Jenny Peake and Morgan Pruitt.
