HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Rotary Club of Hot Springs Village recently welcomed Villager Dennis Cooper. For the first time, a member of the Hot Springs Village Rotary Club has been elected to serve as the district governor. This year, Cooper will preside over all 36 Rotary clubs in District 6170, which includes locations in the south central part of the state such as Arkadelphia, Benton, Bryant, Camden, Conway, El Dorado, Hot Springs, Magnolia, Monticello, Pine Bluff and Russellville.

During his year as district governor, Cooper will visit all 36 clubs. Presenting his program in Hot Springs Village, he said, "It's good to be home." Cooper thanked the club for its efforts toward making the surrounding community a better place, such as its work in the area of literacy by funding children's books from the Garland County and Saline County Imagination Library. "Let's look at doing things that will help prevent problems from happening," he said. "Literacy is a big part of that, as well as making healthy choices in life."

In closing, Cooper said, per the press release, "If you want to touch the past, touch a rock. If you want to touch the present, touch a flower. If you want to touch the future, touch a life. That's what Rotarians do."

Rotary membership is open to all men and women, with guests welcome at the Hot Springs Village club, which meets in the Fireside Dining Room at Good Sam's, 121 Cortez Road, at 7 a.m. Thursdays.
