Dobby Day 'thanks'

Dear editor:

At the end of July, Ouachita Children's Center had a unique sock and underwear drive we called Dobby Day. In the "Harry Potter" series, Dobby was a house elf -- a horribly enslaved group -- who was set free with the gift of a sock. We used that theme to launch our second annual Dobby Day and the response was overwhelming. Throughout the day, there was a steady stream of church groups, clubs, troops, businesses and individuals who brought a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors and styles for our teenage youths. The Garland County Library also served as a drop off location.

It was so heartwarming to see our community come together to provide these much-needed essentials. Now, we'll be able to distribute new socks and underwear to the youths in crisis who live in our emergency shelter in Hot Springs, to youths who come to our outreach ACT2 classes both here and in Arkadelphia, and to homeless youths that we are working within our new homeless youth outreach. We are so appreciative of this community and the consistent, generous response that you have given to Ouachita Children's Center. Thank you!
