Oaklawn Rotary announces Christmas Parade date, theme

The 2018 Oaklawn Rotary Christmas Parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in downtown Hot Springs, and this year's parade theme is "Christmas Vacation," the club announced this week in a news release.

The rain date will be Tuesday, Dec. 4. Themed float entries are now being accepted from area groups, businesses and organizations, the release said.

The parade entry fee is $50, or $25 for pageant winners. The proceeds are used to support Garland County charities and provide scholarships to local high school students, it said.

Trophies will be awarded for first and second place, best decorated, most creative, best use of the theme, best special effects and best choreography floats as well as best decorated "non-float."

"With all the positive national attention Hot Springs has earned as a leading vacation destination, it made sense to incorporate it into this year's parade," Scott Burton, parade chairman, said in the release.

"We're looking forward to seeing all the unique ways 'Christmas Vacation' will be interpreted by parade entrants," Landon Trusty, Oaklawn Rotary president, said in the release.
