A Hot Springs man who was arrested Wednesday after allegedly breaking into a residence on Mill Creek Road reportedly told Garland County sheriff's deputies that "they have a more comfortable couch."
Brandon Michael Klorik, 27, of 5403 Mill Creek Road, was arrested at his home around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday and charged with a felony count of breaking or entering, punishable by up to six years in prison.
Klorik remained in custody Thursday on $2,500 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Bennie Strickland responded to a possible burglary at a residence in the 5500 block of Mill Creek Road.
Strickland spoke with the female homeowner, 20, who said her mother, 38, called and said her pig was running loose. The woman and her husband returned to their residence and found the alarm system was going off.
While her husband went to help her mother get the pig, the woman went inside to check the alarm. When she opened the front door, which was reportedly unlocked, she saw a white man wearing a black shirt and red hat sitting on her couch.
She ran outside and yelled to her husband and mother that someone was inside the residence. She said she saw the man attempt to leave the residence through a side door, but he saw her mother standing near the door with a stick.
The man was reportedly able to shut the door, exit the residence through a bedroom window and flee into the woods.
Strickland checked the area but was unable to locate anyone. He received a call at around 8 p.m. that the mother was following a man walking on Mill Creek Road who matched the description of the suspect. She followed the man, later identified as Klorik, to his residence and asked him why he broke in and he reportedly told her, "You know why."
Strickland found Klorik sitting in the front yard and noted he matched the description he had been given earlier. He asked Klorik what was going on and Klorik said, "You know." Strickland said he told Klorik "you can't be going into people's homes without permission" and Klorik allegedly said, "They have a more comfortable couch."
Nothing was noted missing from the victims' residence.
