Weather forces changes to playoff schedule

Six state playoff semifinal games and one state final were rescheduled Friday due to inclement weather in the forecast.

The Arkansas Activities Association announced Friday morning the games were "postponed due to the threat of severe weather. The state finals for Class 6A and Class 7A will continue today as scheduled.

All semifinal games for Class 2A, Class 3A and Class 4A will be played today at 6 p.m.

Mount Ida (11-2) will play at Hazen (12-0) today as the Lions chase a third consecutive appearance in the 2A championship game. Their conference rival and defending state champion Foreman (11-1) will host the other semifinal against Junction City (10-2).

Arkadelphia (8-5) will make the long road trip to Shiloh Christian (12-1) in one of the two 4A semifinal games. Another 4A-7 conference team, Joe T. Robinson (12-1) will host Dumas (12-1) in the other semifinal.

One undefeated will go on the road and the other will be at home in the 3A semifinals. Rison (13-0) is the road team against Osceola (12-1) and Prescott (12-1) will play at Booneville (13-0).

The top two seeds from the 6A-West conference will meet again at noon in the 6A title game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. No. 1 Greenwood (11-1) defeated No. 2 Benton (10-2), 62-33, in Week 8 of the regular season. The Panthers' only other loss was the annual Salt Bowl at War Memorial.

The Salt Bowl abruptly ended on Aug. 25 after a disruption in the stands caused fans and the teams to flee the field. The other participant in the Saline County rivalry game, Bryant (9-2), is in the 7A championship game at 6:30 p.m.

The Hornets will meet the top-ranked North Little Rock Charging Wildcats (12-0) for the second time this season. North Little Rock has been ranked No. 1 in the state all season, but the Charging Wildcats' closest win of the season, 34-28, was on Oct. 26 after the visiting Bryant team took a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter.

The two Class 5A finalists face the longest delay after their title game rematch on Friday was delayed to Sunday at 2 p.m. The 5A-Central conference champion, Pulaski Academy (12-1), will meet the league runner-up, Little Rock Christian (13-1).

The Bruins breezed past the Warriors, 56-14, on Sept. 28 at Pulaski Academy. The two teams eliminated their semifinal opponents, Harrison (13-1) and Morrilton (9-5), by a combined score of 136-96.
