"Cotton Candy" by Tilley

• Gallery Central, 800 Central Ave. -- Gallery Central will feature live painting by artist Holly Tilley.

Tilley was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but has lived and worked in Arkansas most of her life. She loves being outdoors and Arkansas landscapes. Some of her favorite subjects are Lake Ouachita, old barns, trucks, and cows. Tilley has studied with Bill Garrison, Barry Thomas, Dreama-Tolle Perry, Guido Frick, Bruce Peil and John Lassater.

"I love studying with others -- you can continue to learn every day -- looking, studying, and slowly incorporating things you learn into your own style is so fun," she said.

Several of the more than 35 artists represented by Gallery Central will be in attendance. New works by Joseph Raymond, Charles Guess, Jacqueline Ellens, Jennifer Wilson, Janis Polychron, Claude Lambert and Lee Gibson have arrived. Come shop for Christmas with small works by Janice Higdon, Ashley Benton, James Hayes, Jennifer Wilson, Erma Steelsmith and Sandy Newberg.

"DJs in Sweaters"

• KUHS Studios, 240 Ouachita Ave. -- KUHS-LP Hot Springs 102.5 FM, Solar Powered Community Radio, will be opening their new photography exhibition, "DJs in Sweaters," from 5-8 p.m. today during Gallery Walk. Refreshments will be served.

The series includes photographs of KUHS DJs, often paired, sometimes solo, wearing their favorite sweaters. The-up-and-coming Hot Springs photographers participating in the show attempt to illustrate the inescapable dichotomy of life in the DJ booth -- the essential aloneness of being one person behind a microphone, balanced by the expansive community of the listening audience. If a sweater is worn only on the radio, does Argyle even exist?

"Fox Run Creek" by Kunath

• Artists' Workshop Gallery, 610-A Central Ave., is open from 5-9 p.m. today and is showcasing December's featured artists, Joanne Kunath and Pam Reeder.

Kunath has been in the Hot Springs art community for the last 13 years. Having retired from California in 2005, she loves the natural beauty of Arkansas and the four distinct seasons. The beauty of the seasons stimulates and inspires her creativity. Called the "Artist of Color," she uses brilliant colors in her pastels and alcohol ink paintings.

Her paintings give any decorator the joy and energy that bright colors provide, and her works complement the home and stimulate conversations. Her art is professionally framed. Kunath credits her "soul mate," husband Ron, who hangs her work, designed her printed materials and keeps her publicity up-to-date. The Kunaths are known for providing a quality art experience to the community. She has won many awards and prizes in local juried shows, and her work can be viewed daily at the gallery.

Reeder's paintings are a unique fusion of abstract and expressionistic elements. Utilizing both acrylic and mixed media, her work is distinguished by bold colors and energetic brush strokes. Her favorite subjects are florals and women, as well as a fondness for plein-air painting. Her visceral connection to the painting medium is clearly evident. "I love to get in the paint."

A recent arrival to Hot Springs Village, Reeder, a graduate of Texas Tech University, grew up in West Texas and taught and coached volleyball. After she retired from teaching, she showed cutting horses and her career as an artist began. Reeder also maintains a home in Ruidoso, N.M., where she was a partner in the local artist's studio for two years and directed her own art studio, Art Studio-Pam. In addition to showing at the Artists' Workshop Gallery, she is a member of Brush Strokes in Hot Springs Village.

Santa will be available for photos. Music will be provided by a local acoustic artist. Refreshments will be available on a holiday picnic table.

The featured miniature artists for December are Marlene Gremillion and Joanne Kunath.

Artists' Workshop Gallery open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12-5 p.m.
