Crowe leads division, Seals at Blair meet

LITTLE ROCK -- Emma Crowe won the high-point award for her division last month as the Hot Springs Family YMCA Seals swim team competed in Little Rock.

The Seals participated in the Paul Blair Memorial Thanksgiving Invitational Swim Meet hosted by the Arkansas Dolphins swim team at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Donaghey Student Center's Fitness and Aquatic Center. The meet was sanctioned under USA Swimming through Arkansas Swimming.

Crowe won all eight of her individual events in the division for girls ages 11-12. She won the 50-yard backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle events, as well as the 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, as well as the 200-yard individual medley.

Teammate Ying Jiang took third in the same division in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke. Abi Steele swam sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 50-yard backstroke.

The Seals took fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay with Crowe, Aubrey Schmitt, Audrey Simons and Lily Shields. Steele swam on the fifth-place 200-yard freestyle relay team with Crowe, Simons and Shields.

Simons won first place in the 100-yard backstroke and individual medley in her division for girls ages 10 and younger. She took second place in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly events, the 50-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle and individual medley events. She placed third in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Schmitt took second in the same division in the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke events. She also placed third in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley. She added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle and eighth place in the 50-yard freestyle.

Luke Vondenstein won both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke events in the division for boys ages 11-12. He placed second in the 200-yard individual medley, third in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, fourth in the 50-yard backstroke and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.

Mason Vondenstein took second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard freestyle in the senior men division. He was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, sixth in the 200-yard individual medley and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle.

Nicole Burek earned second place in the senior women division. She placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle.

Hao Jiang competed in the division for boys ages 13-14. He placed sixth in the 400-yard individual medley.
