What can we do?

Dear editor:

Another school shooting and nothing will happen. We'll see thoughts and prayers on social media. They will probably light some candles, hold hands and move on.

But what can we do? I do believe that 100 percent of the blame falls on the parents. But how does a child get a gun? How do we stop that? When I was a teen, my father had gun vaults locked at all times. But do we need to teach gun safety in schools? Do we really need to have a class telling children guns aren't the answer?

But can we? The news when this happens covers it for days 24/7 and have their so-called "experts" telling us what will happen, the weapon he used, why he did it. Are other kids watching and saying, hey that could solve my issue. Then we have television and movies telling everyone that a gun will solve all our problems, even when someone kills the protagonist dog ...

We want crack down on crime, but we make shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Sons Of Anarchy" hit shows and treat these people like heroes. Too many mixed messages? Is America just violent?

I'm not for gun control, but I'm for stupid control. With a generation who film themselves eating laundry detergent pods, and it seems parents have no clue what their kids are doing. I think it's time to start charging the parents with the same crime the child committed. Then we wait and see how quick parents start getting these kids under control. One can dream.
