Tigers needing to make up ground after Day 1 of NSISC

CLEVLAND, Miss. -- After the first day of competition Ouachita sits in sixth place in both the men and women's divisions at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships.

Freshman Camilla Howarth (Allen, Texas) finished 18th in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:15.37. Susannah Frith (Lafayette, La.) also participated in the event and finished in 22nd place with a time of 11:48.17.

In the men's 1000-yard freestyle, junior swimmer Brandon Parramore (Gainesville, Fla.) came in 13th position with a time of 9:51.17. Freshman Trayton Armstrong (Dallas, Texas) also swam in the event and finished with a time of 10:08.22. The time was good enough for a 20th place finish.

Anastasiia Ulianova (Zaporozhye, Ukraine) finished in 16th place in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.36. Emily Mahan finished a few spots back with a time of 2:18.60.

The Tigers made a big splash in the fourth event of the afternoon. Artemii Orekhov (Enerhodar, Ukraine) finished in 4th place in the men's 200 yard IM. Orekhov completed the race in a time of 1:51.39. Teammates Riley Bunyard (Harrah, Okla.) and Mitchell Lee (Moscow, Tenn.) finished in 15th and 18th place respectively in the event.

Alyssa Reece (Paragould) picked up a point for the Tigers in the women's 50-yard freestyle event. Reece finished in 16th place with a time of 25.71.

The women's 200-yard medley relay team came in 5th place in the championships. The team of Rylee Garrett (Montgomery, Texas), Mahan, Ulianova and Christina Beger (White Hall) finished with a time of 1:51.51. The Tigers second relay team of Madison Shankle (Alma), Frith, Kristina Beall (Cedar Parks, Texas) and Victoria Kunselman (Ft. Worth, Texas) finished in 14th position with a time of 1:58.91.

The men's 200-yard medley relay team, consisting of Alexander Podguzov (Moscow, Russia), Orekhov, Lee and Noah Day (Port-au-Prince, Haiti), finished in 6th place with a time of 1:33.63. Ouachita's second relay team of Jacob Evans (Magnolia, Texas), Parramore, Bryce Davidson (New Iberia, La.) and Bunyard finished in 13th place with a time of 1:35.68.

The University of West Florida, Lindenwood University and Delta State are the top three schools in the women's standings. While, the men's team is looking up at Delta State, Lindenwood and Henderson State in the top three spots of the standings.
