A Hot Springs man was arrested Monday after allegedly punching his wife in the face in front of a Garland County sheriff's deputy who had responded to a reported disturbance at his home.

Lonnie Ray Tadlock, 65, of 500 Bellaire Drive, was arrested at his home around 2 p.m. and initially charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, and held on zero bond.

Tadlock appeared in Garland County District Court via video on Tuesday morning and the victim's daughter and son testified that their mother is 68 years old, so Judge Ralph Ohm amended the charge to second-degree battery, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison.

Under Arkansas law, a person commits second-degree battery if they knowingly cause physical injury to a family or household member they know to be 60 years of age or older, or 12 years of age or younger.

Tadlock pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday and a felony review hearing is now set for Feb. 26 to determine if the case will be bound over to Garland County Circuit Court. Bond for Tadlock was set at $15,000 and he remained in custody Wednesday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Cpl. Brandon Jones responded to the residence in reference to a domestic disturbance where a man was allegedly threatening to kill his wife. Upon his arrival, he observed the wife standing in the driveway and the suspect, later identified as Tadlock, sitting inside the garage.

As Jones walked up the driveway, Tadlock's wife reportedly stated that he was off his medication. Jones noted Tadlock then walked up to his wife and struck her on the right side of her face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground.

Jones reportedly tackled Tadlock to the ground immediately and placed him into custody without further incident.
