Jeff Krupsaw, an avid fan of horse racing and a student of handicapping since his father took him to the Pomona Fair in Southern California in the early 1970s, has been named the hometown newspaper's Morning Line handicapper.
Krupsaw, whose selections appear in today's edition, has five years of expertise as a newspaper selector, covering the 1988-1989 Sunland Park seasons for the El Paso Times, then moving to the Birmingham News, where he made selections at the Birmingham Race Course from 1989-1991.
Krupsaw joined The Racing Times in 1991, covering the Nebraska racing circuit and handicapping until the publication ceased operations in April of 1992.
During 25 years as the deputy sports editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Krupsaw has maintained his interest in racing, writing columns on the sport and entering numerous handicapping tournaments at Oaklawn, where he has twice finished as a runner up.
Krupsaw briefly maintained a website called the Oaklawn Insider during the 2003 season, and touted the winner of the Arkansas Derby, Sir Cherokee, who paid $113 to win at 65-1 odds.
