Pati Trippel, a mixed-media artist, won Brushstrokes Painting of the Month for December 2017. Trippel's work, "The Great Blue Heron," is a prime example of how an artist can take something ordinary and with vision create something extraordinary, a news release said. She double majored in art and elementary education in college but had a varied career as a graphic artist, owning restaurants, and teaching art. She portrays vivid color in her works but also showcases an intense sense of texture and almost crispness. Her painting is now hanging in the Hot Springs Village Chamber of Commerce boardroom and she has another painting hanging in the hallway of the Coronado Center for Brushstrokes' January showing.
