Ad panel seeks new member

The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission is seeking a new member following the resignation of Chairman Bob Martorana.

Martorana resigned following his retirement as general manager of the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa. The position must be held by an owner or manager of a hotel, motel or restaurant business located within the city limits.

"Due to the fact that I have left the Arlington and it does not appear that I will be managing any operation here in Hot Springs. Regrettably I submit my resignation as of today as chairman of the A & P Commission," Martorana said in his letter of resignation, which was released by Visit Hot Springs on Friday.

"Please pass along my appreciation to all the commissioners and your staff that have certainly made my appointment a real pleasure. You run the very best convention center and facility in the state. Something that should make you very proud."

Martorana said in the letter that he plans to remain in Hot Springs at this time.

Applications for the volunteer position will be accepted until Feb. 16, according to Leysa Lowery of Visit Hot Springs, the city's convention and visitors bureau, which is operated by the commission.

The new commissioner will complete the remainder of Martorana's term, which expires Sept. 30, 2020.

Applicants must also be a qualified elector in the city of Hot Springs.

The seven-member commission administers the collection and expenditure of the city's 3 percent tax on prepared food and lodging for the purpose of promoting Hot Springs. The commission also oversees operation of the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Applications are available at the executive offices of the convention center, 134 Convention Blvd., via fax or via email.

Call Lowery at 321-2277, ext. 6201, or email [email protected] for more information.
