A number of area high school graduates were in action last week for college athletics programs.

Akasha Westbrook, Arkansas State

The Red Wolves (10-10, 5-4 Sun Belt Conference) picked up a road win in a two-game trip to the Carolinas last week in conference play. Redshirt junior Akasha Westbrook, of Malvern, earned her fourth double-double of the season Thursday in a 70-63 victory at Coastal Carolina (11-10, 5-5).

Westbrook scored 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Arkansas State was led by a season-high 23 points from sophomore guard Jada Ford, from Muskogee High School in Oklahoma.

Ford and Westbrook tied for the team-lead with 17 points on Saturday, but the Red Wolves fell 68-66 at Appalachian State (6-15, 4-6). It was the 13th straight game Westbrook scored in double figures.

Arkansas State had possession with 1.3 seconds on the clock. Westbrook released a shot after the buzzer and a foul was called as time expired. Referees determined after an official review the foul occurred after time expired and the Red Wolves would not shoot free throws for a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Westbrook shot 8-for-13 in the game. She leads the team with 14 points and 32.2 minutes per game.

Her 643 minutes ranks first on the team this season. Senior Lauren Bradshaw, from Mesquite, Texas, is second on the team with 506 minutes.

Arkansas State will be at home twice this week in Jonesboro to face Georgia State (5-15, 1-8) at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Georgia Southern (4-16, 1-8) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Andre Jones, Little Rock

A season of painful losses continued for Little Rock (5-17, 2-7) Thursday as the Trojans lost 72-67 on the road at Appalachian State (9-14, 4-6). Little Rock had a 13-point lead in the first half and led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but could not hold on to the lead.

Little Rock had a chance to win the game in regulation, but freshman guard Jaizec Lottie, from Aurora, Colo., had his layup attempt blocked in the waning seconds. Costly turnovers and key free throws by the Mountaineers preserved the victory for the hosts.

Senior Wadly Mompremier, from Miami, played 25 minutes off the bench to lead Little Rock with 16 points on 5-for-6 shooting and rebounds. Sophomore Andre Jones, of Malvern, was second on the team with 15 points, but shot just 6-for-23 (26 percent) from the floor.

The Trojans shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half Saturday at Coastal Carolina (10-13, 4-6), but made just 8 of 29 attempts (27.6 percent) in the second half of a 72-62 Sun Belt Conference loss.

Sophomore guard Ryan Pippins, from Little Rock Parkview, led Little Rock with a career-high 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting on 3-pointers. Jones had 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting and six rebounds.

Jones bounced back from a slump in December to score in double figures in each of the last six games, averaging 15.7 per game during that stretch. He increased his team-leading scoring average to 12.2 points per game.

Little Rock will have two home games this week with Georgia Southern (15-7, 6-3) at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Georgia State (16-6, 7-2) at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
