HSHS to host Nike basketball camp

The fifth annual Nike Boys Basketball Camp will move to Hot Springs World Class High School next week for youth players in the region.

The camp is scheduled for July 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first four days and 9 a.m. to noon on the final day. The camp is offered for male students entering grades 4-9, ages 9-15.

The participation fee is $265 per player. Episcopal College head boys' basketball coach Micah Marsh, Arkansas director of camps and skills training for Nike Elite Hoops Basketball, said the camp is limited to the first 80 boys to register. Marsh said the camp sold out last year.

"Hot Springs World Class High School and the Hot Springs School District are very excited about hosting the Nike Basketball Camp this year," said Hot Springs Athletic Director Rodney Echols. "It will allow us to showcase the wonderful improvements that we are making to our facilities and provide kids with a top notch camp in Hot Springs. In addition, the Nike Basketball Camp looks to establish a relationship with this area to host clinics in the future."

Registration is available online at https://www.ussportscamps.com. Call 1-800-645-3226 to register or request additional information.

The camp focuses on individual skill development with three morning stations for individual skill development, 3-on-3 Elite League and classroom/video. All participants will be evaluated upon arrival and split into smaller groups, according to age and ability.

Each camper will play in one 5-on-5 game and participate in Living by Numbers contests each day. Campers work through a combination of drills, stations and competitions designed to improve their fundamental, shooting and dribbling skills.

Marsh scored 1,225 points for Arkansas State, where he was a four-year starter and ranks second all-time in career 3-pointers for the Red Wolves. He will be assisted by staff Elite Hoops.

"Kids will be able to develop athletically, work on fundamental basketball skills and enhance their skill set to become better overall basketball players," Echols said. "Not only will they work on individual skill set, they also will compete in 3v3 and 5v5 play."

Each camper will receive a Nike camp shirt and other prizes. They will also receive a skill workbook, camp certificate and a handwritten evaluation from the coaching staff.

Lunch will not be provided, but a concession stand will be available with pizza, snacks and drinks. The final day of the camp will close with an awards ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m. Parents are invited to attend the ceremony.

The Hot Springs camp is one of two camps scheduled for Arkansas this month. Previous Hot Springs camps have been held at the Lakeside Athletic Complex.

Episcopal is hosting a camp this week. Other Nike camps are scheduled for this month in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
