S7 Rotarians got lesson on chicken breeding

Scenic 7 Rotarians recently learned more about the No. 1 industry in Arkansas -- agriculture. Club members heard from Sherial Bradley. She and her husband, Marty, run a broiler breeder farm and cattle operation in western Garland County.

Agriculture accounts for one out of every six jobs in the state. Broiler production and beef are the Nos. 1 and 3 agricultural products.

Because Scenic 7 Rotarians had recently built a chicken coop for Cedar Mountain Boys & Girls Club, Bradley focused her program on the chicken operation. A breeder farm produces fertilized eggs which are sold to broiler hatcheries for incubation.

Bradley works full-time at the Area Agency on Aging of West Central Arkansas serving as director of Technology and Senior Center Services. The Bradleys were previously honored as a Garland County Farm Family of the Year.

Scenic 7 Rotary Club meets at Charlie's Pizza Pub at noon Thursdays. Visitors are welcome. For information, call Barb Mitchell, 922-9004, or Amanda Kennedy, 922-0227.
