'Shocked' by article

Dear editor:

I have been a fan and supporter of HER since its inception, so to say I was shocked and horrified by this month's featured article would not overstate my reaction. What in heaven's name would possess you to celebrate a woman whose family fought for the Nazis -- her brother was killing our men? who was living the high life while her country was persecuting and annihilating Jews, gays, religious and the mentally challenged; who speaks of the horrors of the Russians (and yes, they perpetrated horrific atrocities).

This woman lived an idyllic life without any hardship from 1933 to 1944 under Hitler while he and her relatives were terrorizing all of Europe -- murdering, torturing, pillaging and raping in every country and she has the hubris to talk about atrocities being committed by the Russians?! Seriously?! I am appalled by your total insensitivity to all who suffered under the Nazis -- our community has Jewish, French and other descendants of the Nazi Holocaust and you celebrate one of them.

She speaks of her family sitting down to dinner every night while most of Europe was starving. You write that her brother fought with the Nazis against the French -- our ally -- and although not stated, against our boys.

Only when it became clear that this blight on the world would be defeated was she concerned about atrocities. And you title the article "We never regret it." That's all too obvious from her reaction to being on the losing side and wanting to shift the blame to those who fought so bravely to save the world from Nazi domination.
