HSV Lifelong Learning Open House set Friday

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Lifelong Learning Institute of Hot Springs Village welcomeds all Villagers to a free Open House at the Police Academy Training Center, corner of Balearic and Ponderosa, from 2-6 p.m. Friday. Complimentary gourmet pizza will be served, prepared by Culinary Arts Chef Craig Barlow, who will be new chef at Dolce Vita and will teach a culinary class for Lifelong Learning this fall.

Entertainment will be provided by singer and songwriter Jim Pollock, who will teach a creative writing class for LLI.

There will be a focus on Arkansas history this fall. Mark Christ, from the Department of Arkansas Heritage, will present a program on Civil War 1863 and the Camden Expedition. Holly Hope, of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, will share information about the New Deal and Arkansas during World War II. Award-winning author Nancy Hendricks will present two programs this fall, "Notable Women of Arkansas" followed by "Notable Women of Hot Springs." In addition, counselor Janet Holt will present "A New View of Aging."

At the open house, there will be information on times and locations, and how to join the Lifelong Learning program. According to LLI board member Larry Wilson in the press release, "LLI programs are informative and entertaining. We are especially excited about the gourmet cooking classes. Also, in the Village, we have many people who moved from someplace else and want to know more about Arkansas. LLI programs are a great way to appreciate our home even more, as well as meeting other interesting people."

The Lifelong Learning Institute of Hot Springs Village is in a partnership affiliation with Henderson State University to encourage Villagers to enrich their minds through customized community education. Each program is based on feedback from Villagers to provide fun, fellowship and learning opportunities for accomplished adults.
