July Yard of the Month announced

The Garland County Master Gardener July Yard of the Month Award went to Bea Sanders.

Sanders grew up in Newport and was in 4-H. She developed a love for gardening from her mother, who grew a large vegetable garden, as well as flower gardens. They spent the summer months canning the fruit of their labor.

Sanders has lived in her tree-shaded home located in Rector Height Subdivision for more than 30 years. Her son, Michael, helps with the heavy lifting and maintenance. They have squash, tomatoes and cucumbers growing in pots.

Colorful red geraniums fill the planters on either side of the driveway to welcome visitors to the home. The rock-lined beds, edged with variegated liriope, feature dogwood trees, azaleas, Gerber daisies, hostas, hydrangeas, snow ball bushes, lilies, gladiolas, hibiscus and yuck plants.

Seasonal color can be found throughout the yard in pots of flowering annuals, as well as around the patio and incorporated within the flower beds. The whimsical yard art is scattered in various areas and the Razorback statue featured in the front of the home. Go Hogs!

Anyone who knows someone that has a yard or business they would like to nominate for consideration as Yard of the Month may call the Garland County Extension Office, 623-6841, or email the name and address to [email protected].
