Stardust Big Band sets next monthly Arlington dance

Stardust Big Band will hold its next dance at 3 p.m. July 22 at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa.

The band will celebrate the return of Gary Meggs on tenor sax to replace Earl Hesse, who has retired from Stardust after 18 years.

Meggs, a student of Hesse, has performed with Stardust on flute, alto and tenor sax alternately for 15 years. He is a founder of the summer jazz camp at the UAM campus in Monticello. The Hot Springs Jazz Society scholarship awards program sends qualified music students of Arkansas to attend this informative jazz camp. Meggs has also been a contributing member of the Hot Springs Jazz Society Board.

The Stardust Big Band dances attract dancers from across the state and Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas.

Dance admission is $10 or free for students K-12. No beverage or food items may be brought in from outside with the exception of a special occasion cake. A full-service cash bar is available from which attendees may bring their beverages into the ballroom. Ice water is served at the tables.
