Arkansas LB named to Bednarik watch list

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas Razorbacks junior middle linebacker De'Jon "Scoota" Harris was among the 85 players announced this week on the 2018 preseason watch list for the Bednarik Award.

Named for the late College and NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Bednarik Award presented by the Maxwell Football Club in December honors the nation's best defensive football player.

Harris is a two-year letterman from Harvey, La. He was Arkansas' leading tackler in 2017 with 115, including 8.5 behind the line of scrimmage for -25 yards.

OBU swim team preps

for 2018-19 schedule

ARKADELPHIA -- Ouachita Baptist head swimming and diving coach Steven Bostick released the team's 2018-19 schedule this week.

"We have a very competitive schedule this year," Bostick said. "We start off with an alumni meet that usually features a few past national champions and we end with one of the toughest conference meets in the country. Throw in Division I foes TCU and Little Rock along the way and its one monster of a schedule."

The Tiger swim teams open the season up with a pair of exhibition meets on Sept. 28 -29. The annual Purple & White meet will take place Sept. 28, while the Alumni Meet & Tailgate will be held on Sept. 29.

The home schedule begins on Oct. 5 against in-state foe Hendrix. Ouachita will hold its first dual meet of the season the following day against the University of Texas-Permian Basin and Oklahoma Christian.

Ouachita will end the season with a trip to the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference meet on Feb. 21-23.

"Every year is different, but this year, I don't see any one athlete carrying the torch," Bostick said. "Every swimmer has a goal/job on this team and that's to finish the season strong in the classroom and faster in the pool. If everyone focuses on being better, the team results take care of themselves."

Last season was one of the most successful swim season's for the Ouachita swim program this decade. The College Swimming Coaches Association of America named both the men and women's swim programs Scholar All-American Teams.

The same publication also named junior swimmer Artemii Orekhov, from Enerhodar, Ukraine, a Scholar All-American. Orekhov became the 10th Tiger to earn the honor since the start of the 2010 season.
