More details revealed in motel drug bust

A local man arrested Thursday on multiple felony drug charges pleaded not guilty Friday in Garland County District Court as more details were released about the raid on a local motel.

Robert Horace Hood, 43, who lists an Oakcliff St. address, was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. at the Econo Inn, 805 E. Grand Ave., and charged with two counts of possession of meth or cocaine with purpose to deliver, each punishable by up to 30 years in prison, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate certain crimes, each punishable by up to 20 years, and possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to six years.

Hood remained in custody in lieu of bonds totaling $32,500 and appeared Friday morning via video in Garland County District Court where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. A felony review hearing to determine if the charges will be bound over to Garland County Circuit Court is set for July 30.

Judge Meredith Switzer also issued a court order barring Hood from future contact with the Econo Inn.

According to the probable cause affidavit released Friday, Investigator Jjesus Anaya and other members of the department's Special Investigations Narcotics Unit executed a narcotics search warrant on Room 204 at the motel with the assistance of the SWAT team.

They located Hood inside the room and detained him while the room was searched. Investigators allegedly located a digital scale, a plastic bag with 12.6 grams of what later tested positive for meth, a plastic bag with 24.2 grams of what later tested positive for crack cocaine, a bag with 18 grams of marijuana, ID cards in Hood's name, two cellphones, $494 in cash and multiple empty baggies.

A news release from the police Thursday said the estimated street value of the drugs found was $10,000.

The affidavit notes the motel is 370 feet from Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
