A local man arrested after a brief standoff early Wednesday allegedly fired a shotgun at a Garland County sheriff's deputy and three highway subcontractors working near his home, according to an affidavit released Thursday.

Robert Charles Bailey, 34, of 123 Pinehill Road, was taken into custody around 7:45 a.m. at his residence and charged with four felony counts of aggravated assault and one count of first-degree criminal mischief, each punishable by up to six years in prison.

He remained in custody Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $200,000 and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's department received a 911 call stating Bailey was pointing a rifle at multiple people. The caller stated Bailey had shot at a construction truck through a window of his residence and three of the subcontractors later gave written statements they were "in close proximity" to the work truck, a yellow Ford F-150, when it was shot.

Deputy Andrew Goodman responded to the scene and while attempting to make contact with Bailey, one shot was allegedly fired in his direction.

After deputies set up a perimeter around the house, they ordered Bailey to come outside and he finally exited the residence and was taken into custody without injury.

He was initially taken to a local hospital for evaluation but was later booked into the Garland County Detention Center shortly after 4 p.m.

Investigators arrived to process the scene and executed a search warrant on the residence. They reportedly located a 12-gauge shotgun and three spent shotgun shell casings inside a bedroom in the residence. An exterior window in the same bedroom had broken glass and the window was facing the direction of the work truck, the affidavit states.

Pinehill Road is located off the 5400 block of Highway 7 south and portions of Pinehill and the highway were shut down briefly during the incident. The roadway is currently being widened to four travel lanes in that area.
