The gift of life

Dear editor:

I just read the article by Andrew DeMillo (Arkansas Perspective) about fights over the abortion limits. I am for life; don't label me a pro-lifer. There are great reasons to be a person in favor of no abortions: 1. God created life, including that of the unborn child, 2. I can't imagine my life without my children, no matter how difficult it was to raise them as a single parent after my divorce, 3. abortion to me is murder, life begins at conception and my most terrible thought, 4. is that some organization wants my tax dollars to pay for the death of an unborn child.

Why don't you instill in these young adults the status of marriage before the young woman becomes pregnant? Why does the newspaper run the "Statistics" article of hospital births of single women or unmarried people; there were days when this was a sin. And exactly where is the name of that "donor" who caused that single woman to have the baby listed in the column? Do not tell me that in this day and age our young people do not have access to condoms or birth control pills. I remember when it was being taught at school and you didn't need a parent's permission for these things. There is a Health Department by the Garland County Library. Mothers, talk to your daughters and fathers, teach your sons responsibility.

I would love to hear pastors preach again on the gift of life and why it is important for a man and woman to be married before having children. These young ladies are not giving a "virgin birth" as Mary, the mother of Jesus, did. There is honor in being a parent, a father being the head of the household and a young mother guiding her children in Godly behaviors. Where are the parents, grandparents, pastors and teachers who should be setting examples for our youth?

Call me old-fashioned, but one of my greatest blessings is my youngest grandson, adopted and most loved by the whole family. His birth mother allowed a couple who wanted a child, and a woman who was unable to give birth, to become proud parents. We shall always be grateful to her for our gift of joy.
