Praying for common sense

Dear editor:

I can't help but reply to R. Bruce Smith's letter (June 15, 2018). I am amazed that it has taken someone this long to realize that when we send representatives to Washington, they forget the people who elected them. How many times do we hear them tell us that they are going to "fix Social Security; get the budget under control; bring down the national debt; work for our health benefits to be better and do good for our veterans?" Same story just a different day and their pay goes up and as my mother use to say, "they give a raise to Social Security only to raise our health care to absorb it."

I can never understand the "climate control" thing. Did someone replace God in that department? We get what He gives, it doesn't matter what mankind does in this department, there is no such thing as controlling the weather. I know of no place on Earth, and possibly the moon now that there was a dust storm, where some man or woman could stop a flood, tornado, hail, rain or those high wind fires from happening.

In all the man had to say, do I believe we need coal production, yes; new technology in solar and other things, yes. There's jobs to be had in all these fields. I am for the "wall" to stop illegal immigration. Try getting into a foreign country and see how tight their security is.

Why not ask yourselves, "Why is my representative going to a school to talk to kids?" "Why is he or she not holding a public meeting for people to question them?" A school age, nonvoter doesn't know what to ask a representative. It's the old "Career Day" guest, that's all. I vote and I try to stay up on current events. If I feel my representative needs to leave office, even if I like them, I vote them out. I do not want a representative to be in office as a career, rather local or on the national level. People are going to disappoint us, human nature.

I ask for common sense and yes, prayer for those who rule our nation and make our laws. I just remind myself that they are hearing things in Washington that we in Hot Springs don't hear. It's not a question of what news channel you watch, it's a question of common sense in the way we learn the news.
