A Mountain Pine man was arrested late Tuesday shortly after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman who was reportedly able to fight him off with a knife.

Jackson Hunter Clayborn, 25, who lists a LeFlore Street address, was taken into custody shortly before midnight and charged with a felony count of second-degree sexual assault, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Clayborn was being held on $6,000 bond and appeared Wednesday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, around 11:45 p.m., Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class John McLean responded to a report of a sexual assault in progress in the 2700 block of Central Avenue and upon arrival was waved down by the alleged victim.

The woman said she was walking in the area of Central and Belding Street when she heard a man behind her making remarks about her body. She said she ignored the comments and kept walking north on Central toward Oaklawn Racing & Gaming when the man approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks outside her clothing.

She said she turned around and told the man, "I'm not like the other girls out here. I have a fiance and a child. Leave me alone." She said she continued toward Oaklawn's north parking lot when the man grabbed her wrist and attempted to pull her into the bushes near the lot.

She said she was able to twist away from him and call 911. After she got off the phone with the dispatcher, she noticed a shadow still following her, she said, and as she approached the front of Oaklawn the same man tackled her.

She said he got on top of her and stated, "You're going to get this (expletive)!" She said she rolled over, retrieved her knife and "did a quick stab motion" to protect herself and then ran south on Central "as fast as she could." She said after she made the stabbing motion, the man had jumped up and run north on Central.

Officers reportedly located a man, later identified as Clayborn, in the area of Central and Trivista Street with a laceration to his left upper back. They noted he was also out of breath from running.

The victim was driven by the area where officers had detained Clayborn and she positively identified him as the man who had assaulted her, the affidavit states.

In Clayborn's front pocket, officers allegedly located a small baggie of marijuana, about 1.1 gram.
