A Hot Springs man was arrested Wednesday on a felony battery warrant after allegedly hitting his wife, who is reportedly seven months pregnant, last week.

Shane Allen Nelson, 25, of 602 Bellview St., was taken into custody at his residence around 3:30 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Nelson remained in custody Thursday on zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

Nelson was reportedly previously charged with domestic battery with the same victim in November 2016, enhancing the charge to second-degree battery. Domestic battery is classified as a B felony if committed against a woman the person "knew or should have known was pregnant."

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Feb. 28, Nelson's wife reported an assault by her husband at their residence. She reportedly stated she got upset during an argument and started slapping him several times.

The report noted Nelson was not injured, but his wife is seven months pregnant with his child.

He allegedly responded by hitting his wife causing redness and bruising on the left side of her face. She reportedly declined medical treatment.
