Style show, luncheon set to benefit Single Parent Scholarship Fund

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County will hold its annual fundraiser, a luncheon and style show, at Hot Springs Country Club beginning at 10:30 a.m. April 27.

The fundraiser will provide scholarships to applicants who meet the qualifications as single parents attending college. All funds raised at the event will be matched by state funds to help them achieve a college education. The application for these scholarships includes all transcripts, a personal essay, a letter of recommendation, and an interview with ASPSF board members.

The style show and luncheon will feature a silent auction, cash wine bar, door prizes, lunch, and a fashion show spotlighting five local boutiques. The local shops include Chantilly, The Grand Lagniappe Shoppe, Merle Norman and More, Pink Avenue, and The Trendy Palette Boutique.

A presentation during the luncheon will focus on the program's effort to encourage the importance of continuing education and break the cycle of poverty and government dependency.

Single parents raise children in one of five families in Arkansas, and 80 percent of those are single mothers, a news release said. Achieving better lives for these single parents can seem like an unreachable goal. In 2017, ASPSF awarded 43 individual scholarships, in the total amount of $31,000.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the five featured boutiques, through ASPSF board members, or by calling 501-318-7727.
