Ouachita Hosta topic on shady plants
The Ouachita Hosta and Shade Plant Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave. Snacks and socializing begin at 9:30 a.m. Yvonne Becker will speak on "Shady Charterers."
Becker is a Master Gardener, was president of Garland County Master Gardeners; State of Arkansas Master Gardener of the Year in 2004; member of County 76 (advisory council for state Master Gardeners); and former board member and president of the Arkansas Flower & Garden Show. She is a member of Arkansas Native Plant Society, Arkansas Orchid Society, Hot Springs Iris Society, Hot Springs Daylily Society & American Hemerocallis Society, Ouachita Hosta & Shade Plant Society and Village Pines Garden Club.

Libertarians talk on Ayn Rand philosophy
The Libertarian Party of Garland County will be holding its 2018 Annual Meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday in Room B of the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave. Tom Carpenter will speak on Ayn Rand's philosophy.
Carpenter is a retired college professor. The presentation is free, and anyone who has an interest in his topic is welcome.
The Libertarian Party is the third largest party in the U.S. Its support of social tolerance and fiscal responsibility bridges the gap between liberals and conservatives.
