Just common sense

Dear editor:

I'm writing to commend Casey Alexander of Mount Ida for his thoughtful and spot-on letter about common sense gun laws. His statement that there is no logical reason for any person outside the military to possess a semi-automatic weapon with clips capable of shooting dozens or more rounds is absolutely common sense. And he is right, we should ban semi-automatic sales and the sale of bump stocks immediately.

While everyone deflects the discourse to mental health issues and broken gun registration processes, starting with a ban on the means for these mass shootings and then working on the problems of mental health and gun registration seems a very logical approach.

I come from a family of hunters, but they never needed semi-automatic weapons to bring home meat to eat. I urge everyone to write their government representatives at all levels to take this common-sense approach, and if they do not -- let them know they will not have your vote in the next election.
