Steen gains GAC nomination

ARKADELPHIA -- Ouachita Baptist freshman Louis Steen was nominated for the Great American Conference Player of the Week award after two game-winning hits last week.

The freshman outfielder from Southaven, Miss., hit a walk-off home run for the Tigers (10-17, 6-9) in a 7-6 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana (20-6) in the 10th inning of a non-conference game a week ago at Rab Rodgers Field. He also hit in what ended up being the game-winning run in this weekend's GAC series finale against East Central (2-21, 1-14).

Steen's sixth inning RBI helped Ouachita claim the series after a 16-2 win on Saturday and an 11-10 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. His average was .154 after going 1-for-3 against Central Baptist college on March 6. Steen has steadily increased his average in the last two weeks to a team-leading .405.

Southern Arkansas senior designated hitter and outfielder Jake Tisevich won this week's award. Also nominated were Bryce Dimitroff, senior, East Central; Brendan Kates, freshman, Northwestern Oklahoma State; Sean Wagner, senior, Arkansas-Monticello; and Cody Wescott, senior, Arkansas Tech.
