A Hot Springs man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday after pleading guilty in Garland County Circuit Court to assaulting his ex-girlfriend and stealing her car earlier this year.

Savonne Dashawn Nutt, 23, who was set to stand trial July 19, pleaded guilty to felony charges of theft of property more than $5,000 and aggravated assault on a family or household member and was sentenced to three years in prison on each count, to run concurrently.

He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery and was sentenced to one year in jail, also to run concurrently, and ordered to pay $170 in court costs. A court order barring him from any future contact with the victim was also issued.

Nutt, who was on parole at the time of his arrest Jan. 25, had remained in custody on zero bond since his arrest and will be given credit for time served.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Jan. 8, shortly before 2:30 a.m., a woman reported she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Nutt, at her residence in the 2300 block of Lakeshore Drive and that he stole her white 2013 Nissan Sentra.

She told Hot Springs police Nutt, who is the father of her child, was homeless and didn't have a place to sleep for the night so she let him stay even though they had not been in a relationship for a couple of months.

She said she was trying to sleep but he kept walking around and appeared to be high on meth. She said she told him to go to bed because he was keeping her up and he became agitated and punched her in the mouth, cutting her lower lip.

She said she tried to flee out a sliding door, but he struck her in the face again, knocking her to the floor. She said he then began choking her from behind and dragged her into her children's bedroom and threw her on the bed while still choking her.

She said she lost consciousness at one point, but was finally able to kick him off and run to a neighbor's apartment where she called 911. She got into her car to leave and Nutt came out of her residence and jumped in the passenger window. She got out to run away and he drove off in her car.
