Bicyclist killed; vehicle flees scene

A 52-year-old Hot Springs man was killed Wednesday night after the bicycle he was riding in the 3300 block of Highway 70 west was struck from behind by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to Arkansas State Police.

Brett J. McCullough was eastbound on Highway 70 in the outside traffic lane when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of his bicycle, then fled the scene after impact, at around 8:47 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary that was later posted online.

McCullough was pronounced dead by Deputy Garland County Coroner Jayson Neighbors at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday, the report said.

"This case is under investigation, the only information we have right now is the fatal report we've provided on our website," Arkansas State Police Cpl. Russ Rhodes, who has been assigned to the case, said Thursday.

The report does not state whether there were any witnesses to the collision. It notes the weather condition was clear and the roadway was dry at the time.
