New HSNP superintendent named Christmas parade grand marshal

Laura Miller, the new superintendent of Hot Springs National Park, will serve as grand marshal of this year's Oaklawn Rotary Christmas Parade.

The parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in downtown Hot Springs. This year's parade theme is "Christmas Vacation." In case of rain, the parade will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4.

"Superintendent Miller was the obvious choice when we decided on this year's parade theme of 'Christmas Vacation,'" Scott Burton, the parade's chairman, said in a news release. "Our Rotary Club wanted to use the parade as an opportunity to expose more residents to Miller, our new Hot Springs National Park superintendent, and to welcome her to our community."

"I am honored and humbled to be selected as this year's Christmas parade grand marshal," Miller said in the release. Miller has served as Hot Springs National Park superintendent since August.

"I look forward to meeting more of my fellow Hot Springs residents and sharing in the holiday warmth and beauty of this community. Hot Springs certainly is a great place to spend a vacation and I'm proud to be part of welcoming everyone to share this experience."

Miller previously served as acting superintendent of Buffalo National River. She also worked on the establishment of the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site in Hope, both of which are now designated as National Park Service units.

She is a past president of the Arkansas Historical Association, the Arkansas Museums Association, the Little Rock Museums Consortium, and the Arkansas Women's History Institute.

The Christmas Parade entry deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday. The official parade entry form and parade rules are available at http://www.HotSpringsChristmasParade.com. Email [email protected] for more information.
