Voices Rising prepares for Christmas Concert

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Voices Rising will present its "No Sweeter Music" Christmas Concert to kick off the holidays on Sunday, Nov. 25.

Beginning at 3 p.m. at the Village Bible Church, 100 Ponderosa Way, this select ensemble will share music that will bring laughter, tears, and inspiration, a news release said.

With special guest emcee Ken Goodman, the afternoon will feature a cappella numbers with rich harmonies, spirituals, fun tunes and traditional music of the season. The ladies of Voices Rising will share as the GWENS (Glad We're Not Sopranos) and are "sure to bring a smile." The men of Voices Rising will awe the audience with an a cappella original arrangement of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" for five-part harmony, the release said.

Several wonderful instrumental musicians will join Voices Rising for the concert. Adding to the song "Little Drummer Boy" will be LeeAnn Branch on the drums as the group's "little drummer girl" and accompanying the ensemble for several numbers will be accomplished pianist Donna Toney. Kathy Ogilvie will also enrich the concert with her talents on the violin, the release said.

This season, Voices Rising has added several new members who will show off their voices on an upbeat version of "Deck the Halls" as the "Newbies Quartet." Solos by tenor Marc Bremer, soprano Ruthe Korelitz, and soprano Denise Steinhaus will round out the concert.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Voices Rising has recently performed to packed houses for their concerts. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m., so come early for the best seats, the release said.
