Rams shut down Badgers in Lakeside Classic, 65-18

Lakeside opened its season with a 65-18 win against the Arkadelphia Badgers in the Lakeside Classic Tuesday night at the Lakeside Athletic Complex.

The Rams took advantage of the Badgers missing many of their key players who are still with the football team.

"Arkadelphia didn't have their football kids tonight, so they're a little down player-wise," said Lakeside head coach Eddie Lamb. "As far as our kids' execution, we did a good job. Again, Arkadelphia didn't have all of their players and I know how that is. However, our kids did execute. They played well together and they cheered for one another."

Jaxon Tatum led the Rams with 14 points, two rebounds, a pair of steals with one assist. Tatum put Lakeside on the board early in the first quarter with 4:48 on the clock as he scored on a fast break and hit the layup.

Patrick Davis buried a shot from behind the arc to give the Rams a 9-3 lead with 34 seconds left in the first quarter. Davis tallied three assists and one steal.

Tatum posted up on the next possession and made the bucket for two points to make the score 15-7 to end the opening period.

"I feel good about this season," Lamb said. "This is year 26 for me entering into this thing. I want them to play really well as a team and do all of the little things. I think we're more than capable of doing that this year."

Early in the second quarter, Bryce Bates hit a trey to put the Rams ahead, 21-7. Moments later, Ethan Eastwood hit his own 3-pointer.

Sawyer Lamb had four points before the half with three assists. Davis added another 3-pointer with two minutes left in the second frame to make the score 37-7.

Kade Arguello buried another shot from behind the arc to end the half in Lakeside's favor, 40-9. Arguello paced the Rams with six points with three rebounds with one steal.

Bates had five points, a pair of rebounds, two assists and one steal. Wyatt Wilson added six points, three rebounds and two assists.

"It's a good thing when all the kids get to play, as well," Lamb said. "It's going to be a challenge. We've got our work cut out for us this season. Thursday night, we play Sylvan Hills and they're a very talented team. We'll definitely have a really good ball club in here that night."
