FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Arkadelphia looked more like the team from a year ago than the 0-5 team entering Friday night's game against Fountain Lake at Allen Tillery Field.

A year ago, the Badgers (1-5, 1-2 4A-7) rolled to a 70-7 victory over the Cobras (3-3, 0-3), cruising to a 57-7 halftime lead. They won the Class 4A state championship, 28-27, in December, over Warren at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Friday night, Arkadelphia got on the board with 3:28 off the clock in the first half to roll to a 31-0 lead at the break before claiming its first win of the season, 44-0, on Fountain Lake's homecoming.

Arkadelphia quarterback Cannon Turner found the end zone with 8:32 left in the first quarter on a one-yard run, and Gabe Goodman split the uprights to make it 7-0.

The Badgers continued to plague the Cobras, but Fountain Lake managed to hold the Badgers to 13 points in the second half, all in the final quarter.

Turner dominated the game, completing nine of 16 passes for 137 yards and a score, and he had nine carries for 78 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns. Zion Hatley had 17 carries for 102 yards. Goodman was perfect on the night with five point-after attempts and three field goals, including a 37-yard kick early in the fourth quarter.

Joe Murphy did most of the legwork for the Cobras, rushing 17 times for 71 yards, and Colson Simpson had eight carries for 26 yards.

Arkadelphia put up 421 total yards to the Cobras' 115, but Fountain Lake won the penalty battle. The Cobras had six calls against them for 29 yards while the Badgers' had 13 penalties for 105 yards.

Fountain Lake struggled with turnovers, fumbling twice and losing one with two interceptions while the Badgers did not have a single turnover.

Fountain Lake will travel to Bauxite to face the Miners on Friday. Arkadelphia will host Haskell Harmony Grove.
