LITTLE ROCK -- Fountain Lake junior Chris Desfassiaux closed the 2018 high school golf season on Thursday with a round of 88 at the Arkansas State Golf Association's boys' overall championship tournament at the Pleasant Valley Country Club.

Desfassiaux qualified for the tournament with a runner-up round of 3-over-par 74 on Oct. 2 at the Class 3A boys' state golf tournament on the Burns Park Championship Course in North Little Rock. He earned second medalist and All-State honors. Fellow junior teammate Zach Redifer made All-State with a round of 80.

The Cobras placed second in the 3A state tournament. Their classification was well-represented on Thursday at Pleasant Valley.

The Class 3A girls' medalist, Baptist Prep junior Bailey Dunstan, tied Class 6A's Lilly Thomas with rounds of 4-over-76 on Thursday. Dunstan shot a 66 in the 3A girls' state tournament in September at the Mountain Ranch Golf Club in Fairfield Bay. Episcopal Collegiate's Mary Claire Biggs placed second with a score of 89.

Dunstan rolled in a four-footer for par on the first hold of sudden death on Thursday to win the girls' overall title. Magnolia sophomore Meghan Lindsey shot a 79 to finish third.

Thursday's field included 18 boys and 18 girls, three representatives from each classification.

Class 5A medalist Greenwood senior Evan Griffith won the boys' overall title Thursday. He tied with Valley View junior Devyn Pappas, Cabot junior Caleb Miller and 3A medalist Max Master in regulation with scores of 5-over-par 77 on the 6,785-yard, par-72 course.

Griffith birdied the second hole to win the four-player sudden death playoff. Miller was eliminated after the first playoff hole.

Master took home the third-place trophy after Pappas hit a par putt on the third playoff hole. Master shot a 2-over-par 73 at the 3A tournament a year after taking runner-up honors in 2017.

Baptist Prep won the 3A boys' title with a team score of 325. The Eagles placed second in Class 4A in 2017, six strokes back of Shiloh Christian and three strokes ahead of Fountain Lake.

The Cobras shot 346 at Burns Park for their best score of the season by 15 strokes, according to Fountain Lake golf coach Michael Blees. Desfassiaux, Redifer, senior Jordan Mungle and sophomore Lachlan Murray previously won the 3A-5 district golf tournament by 20 strokes in September at the Glenwood Country Club.
